Grace’s big party April 7
Dear Friends of Grace,
Last year’s kickoff was huge, intense and electrifying. Yesterday’s kickoff was not even close to that. Turnout was low (compared to last year) and of course, I was tired and emotional. It’s been a long hard winter with Grace. David and I don’t have the same energy level that we did last year and we just couldn’t muster up the same momentum to Race for Grace like we’ve done in the past. I sent out over 80 letters to RI businesses and heard back from few to none. We do have the same local support from last year which is a blessing.
I heard Meg telling Lily the other day that pretty soon she will be going to “Grace’s big party.” That’s what it is going to be. It’s going to be a celebration of Grace. Any money raised through donations will be wonderful but for me, it’s not the main goal anymore. I was always more uplifted by the numbers of people who came last year to support Grace, not financially but spiritually. I think it’s more important that 2000 people came to Race for Grace than the fact that we raised all that money. The success of the event is going to come down to the people who want to come and be part of the day and share in Grace’s life and legacy.
For those of you still onboard, I have the registration forms and mostly everything you need is online at www.theraceforgrace.com . Every participant needs one in the hopes of getting sponsors to donate to the race. We also need 5-10 GOOD kid prizes for the carnival section. It’s all about who you know so if anyone has a contact with a sports store, electronics, toys, games, etc. PLEASE contact them and ask for a donated item. All donated items will be on display at the race. Food and refreshments are always an area of need. I know God will provide everything but we still need to do some of the work.
There are different sections of the race that will need support…water stations, road saftey, kids carnival, food, raffle and t-shirts. Anyone interested can contact committee leaders. See attached.
Grace is going back up to Boston Children’s Hospital on April 23rd for some EEG monitoring. She still is struggling with brain pain we suspect. As for me, I’ll be here so if anyone needs anything from me, please feel free to give me a shout. I continue to be sustained by your prayers.
Be Well,
Tara
